Posted by Gabe Gilsrud on Nov 4th 2024

Over the years, Yetti Fish Houses have become a beloved choice for ice anglers seeking a durable, feature-packed fishing experience. At Northland Auto Center, we pride ourselves for matching the high quality of the products we sell with our service. Whether you're considering a new Yetti or need expert advice and parts for your current one, Northland Auto has you covered. Here at our parts and gear outlet, FishHouseToys.com, you'll find more in-stock, genuine replacement parts and upgrades to keep you on the path to adventure than at any other dealership.

Your duties as a Yetti owner are largely covered in the Owner's Guide. There are some maintenance items that are model dependent and others still that depend on your specific custom option requests. Our customers receive a thorough walkthrough of all options when they purchase their Yetti, but to enjoy your Yetti on the ice or in the wilderness, you need to ensure you do 3 things for certain. Many customers who call us with problems are meeting us for the first time, which is why we are writing this article. Throughout, you'll see links to the product pages for parts, how-to articles and videos to ensure you have a good understanding of how the Yetti is serviced.

Common Yetti Maintenance Tips

Maintaining a Yetti Fish House is surprisingly simple. While Yetti owners should follow the owner's guide closely, these are the essentials for a worry-free season:

  • Battery Maintenance: Keep your batteries fully charged and electrolyte topped off with distilled water as needed. Improperly maintained batteries can fail, release excess hydrogen, and trigger the propane / CO alarm in your unit. A "dead" deep cycle battery (under 10.5 volts) can freeze at temperatures as high as +28°F while a 40% charged battery will freeze at -16°F and a fully charged battery will freeze at -92°F. What a difference!
  • Suspension Lubrication: Grease suspension components and hubs regularly. This keeps parts moving smoothly and prevents unnecessary wear that can lead to bigger issues like uneven tire wear. Note: Despite the label on the suspension instructing users to grease and rotate the suspension BEFORE every use, we highly recommend greasing AFTER use to push water, salt and debris out of the joint during those long periods of storage between trips. Lucas Oil has recommended using their #10320 Marine Grease which is an Overbased Calcium Sulfonate type that better combats the salt and water exposure the pivot point is exposed to during the winter months.
  • Keep your LP tanks Filled: While this seems to be less a maintenance item and more of a pre-flight requirement, there are LP-related frustrations you may encounter and it is important to understand how propane behaves and what to do to properly diagnose and rectify propane related problems.
  • Winterizing Water Lines: Prepare your water lines as soon as you are done using the Yetti for the Summer season. Temps below freezing for short periods overnight are generally well-tolerated, but don't take chances! Failure to winterize will result in costly repairs.

Diagnosing Common Issues

  • Tire Wear: Uneven tire wear can often be traced to towing the fish house out of level, or with under-inflated or overloaded tires. Verify the tire condition matches the age of the tire and that the pressure is properly set. If these causes are ruled out, focus on the suspension. Hydraulic units built prior to the 2025 model year have replaceable trailing arm bushings that need regular greasing to extend their lifespan. These bushings are designed to be replaced with use and are not considered to be a lifetime service part.
  • CO/Propane Alarms: The carbon monoxide/propane alarm can sometimes sound unexpectedly—especially after long periods of storage, such as late summer when high humidity can impact the sensor, and low battery voltage can also cause false alarms. Make sure your battery is always charged, cells topped off, and capable of passing a load test to prevent issues.
  • Roof Inspection: We recommend inspecting the roofs of 2018 and newer Yetti units (fiberglass roofs) annually. Focus on the perimeter sealants and any areas where accessories penetrate the roof. Regular inspection helps prevent damage from impacts, snow removal, or accidental pressure from walking on the roof. If sealants look thin, but the roof fabric appears tightly adhered to the framing, a layer of lap sealant is recommended to ensure the seam has adequate coverage to prevent water intrusion.
  • Door Seal Maintenance: Entry and ramp door seals can tear if frozen to the frame. Replacing worn or torn seals is a straightforward DIY task, or you can have us handle it at our dealership.
